As GenXers, we’ve had enough of pretending, overindulgence, and unnecessary stress. Carolyn Smith and Kellie Bowling from The Social Beaches recently shared a list of things they’re saying NO to—and it’s a powerful reminder of what truly matters as we navigate life. Here’s a breakdown of their list, plus a few things I’m adding to the "NO" list:
They’re steering clear of high-pressure sales tactics and the endless recruitment cycle that comes with MLMs, focusing instead on genuine, sustainable opportunities.
In a world full of carefully curated speech, Carolyn and Kellie are embracing real, honest conversations—no longer bound by the need to always be politically correct.
For their mental and physical well-being, they've decided to step away from alcohol, prioritizing clarity and health over social expectations.
They’ve learned the power of setting boundaries and saying NO to commitments that don't align with their values or bring them joy.
Preferring the ease of online shopping, they’ve opted out of the hassle of crowded stores and long lines, saving time and reducing stress.
Instead of feeling obligated to attend multiple family gatherings, they’ve chosen to simplify the holiday season, focusing on creating meaningful, stress-free experiences.
Trusting their own parenting instincts, they’ve stopped letting unsolicited advice dictate how they raise their children.
They’ve let go of the need for external validation and now focus on making choices that reflect their own values, not the opinions of others.
No more tolerating shallow or one-sided relationships. They’re committed to surrounding themselves with people who add value and positivity to their lives.
Adopting a minimalist mindset, they’re saying NO to impulse purchases and focusing on buying only what truly enhances their lives.
What are YOU saying NO to? As we embrace our GenX wisdom, it’s all about creating space for the things that truly bring joy and meaning to our lives.
Let’s keep the conversation going—share your “NO” list with us!
